Parksmart Certified Gold 1 Garage
Project Description:
Parksmart™
The Parksmart™ rating system provides a roadmap for parking structures seeking to increase performance and reduce environmental impact. Garages that successfully implement a minimum number of the Parksmart™ strategies can be recognized as Parksmart™ certified. There are four levels of certification possible for project teams to strive for, Parksmart Pioneer (90 pts.), Bronze (110-134 pts.), Silver (135-159), and Gold (160+).
Project Description
The Sports & Exhibition Authority, owners of the LEED certified David L. Lawrence Convention Center and LEED certified PPG Paint Area, brought 3R on to the project team to provide consulting services. Situated within the Gold 1 Surface Parking lot in the North Shore, the new parking facility was designed to host 1,000 parking spaces and 100 spaces for bicycles. The design of the parking facility showcases Pittsburgh’s sustainability goals through energy efficiency, improving access and mobility, in addition to building community.
Outcomes
Through the use of regional materials, 85% construction waste diversion, living green walls, electric vehicle charging stations and the incorporation of community educational program, the Gold 1 Garage achieved Parksmart™ Gold certification.
