3R employees from across the globe left video calls behind and convened in Pittsburgh for a three-day meeting that included professional workshops, breakout sessions, team-building activities, and community service.
“Being onsite was truly inspiring—there’s nothing like connecting face-to-face, feeling the synergy of everyone’s energy, and working side-by-side in volunteer activities,” said 3R employee Callie Greene.
To make sure the meeting prioritized activities related to 3R’s goals, 3R utilized the ISO 20121 Sustainable Events framework.
“We leveraged the ISO 20121 Sustainable Events framework to plan, manage, and review our team onsite,” said 3R President Jana Lake. “Our goals were to enhance our team’s experience, exceed customer expectations, and engage to drive impact in our community.”
One highlight of the onsite was a Change Management Workshop led by Peter (Kip) Soteres, founder and president of Soteres Consulting.
During the workshop, 3R team members broke out into groups and received mock scenarios that reflected real-world, sustainability-related challenges that 3R and its clients may face. The groups collaborated to devise a strategy to help the fictional clients and presented the solutions to the room
“Change is essential to what [3R employees do] at multiple levels as sustainability consultants,” Soteres said.
3R also had the opportunity to engage in community service at the onsite meeting, fulfilling one of the goals identified through the ISO 20121 Sustainable Events framework.
The team volunteered at 1 Sound Farm and Café Momentum Pittsburgh with Chef Peter Henry.
Team members planted flowers and vegetables and learned from Chef Pete how urban farm initiatives, like 1 Sound Farm, improve community health and create spaces for people to connect and grow. 3R then headed downtown to Café Momentum’s restaurant to make and eat pasta.
Café Momentum Pittsburgh is a restaurant and culinary training facility that aims to equip Pittsburgh’s justice-involved youth with life skills, education, and employment opportunities to help them achieve their full potential.
“3R is a great, driven, committed group of professionals who strive for excellence,” said 3R Manager, Built Environment, Borbala Cross-Boda.
