April 11, 2023 – 3R Sustainability joins the growing coalition pledging to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. One of over 2,400 CEOs that have come together for CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, Jana Lake is committing herself and 3R to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
By signing on to this commitment, 3R Sustainability is pledging to take action to cultivate a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected and where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity and inclusion. The collective of over 2,400 signatories have already shared more than 1,900+ best-known actions, exchanging tangible learning opportunities and creating collaborative conversations via the initiative’s unified hub, CEOAction.com.
“At 3R, sustainability is what we do, and sustainability is built on the inextricable connection between the well-being of the people and the planet. We understand that to be sustainable, environmental justice, social justice, and racial equity need to be normalized in conversation, and in our actions.
We acknowledge the historical precedent that the sustainability field has excluded important and necessary underrepresented voices, and that increasing effects of climate change are disproportionately impacting the same communities that have been, and often still are, left out of conversations. We are committed to bringing people of diverse backgrounds to the table and making sure that all voices are heard and valued. Diverse voices, ideas, and experiences hold the key to sustainability and resilience through the global climate crisis.
This statement is a step on our path toward a more just and sustainable future. To achieve the future we seek, 3R engages in ongoing learning, self-reflection, and advocacy. Within our company, we hold ourselves accountable so that all our stakeholders know that we truly “walk the talk.” To measure our progress on our social equity journey, we created a set of goals for ourselves. Progress on our goals will determine our next set of steps. This process will be repeated for the foreseeable future to promote continual improvement. Our goals include:
- Increase our staff’s awareness and knowledge of social equity and environmental justice and how these impact our work through consistent learning and actions. In 2023 we will have 100% of our staff trained in topics relating to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
- Increase the diversity of voices that are present at 3R Sustainability. To effectively do this, we must also strengthen our culture of inclusion and actively invite people to the table, making it clear that everyone’s voices are valued. In 2023, we will actively recruit from affinity groups that are created for underrepresented groups and review all our policies and job descriptions to ensure that they are written with inclusion at the forefront.
- Amplify and support historically underrepresented groups through meaningful partnerships, collaboration, and diversification of our supply chain. In 2023, we will utilize our procurement program to actively support businesses of underrepresented groups, and we will create a program that prioritizes partnerships with groups that have social equity as part of their mission.”
